Top 10 Foods for Beautiful Younger-Looking Glowing Skin
71
One of the most important aspects of having beautiful skin that glows, is healthy diet. We have to eat the right foods. We can target specific foods to eat for beautiful younger-looking glowing skin. So, say goodbye to dry dull skin! Here comes the new beautiful younger-looking you.
There are hundreds of cosmetic products in the market, Botox and cosmetic surgeries to help us get rid of, hide or reduce those pesky wrinkles and perhaps make us look younger. But we have to fork up a lot of dough, which I, for one, don't have. Now, you and I buy food on a regular basis, don't we? So, why not buy and eat foods that are not only healthy but can also help us have a softer beautiful skin - glowing, vibrant, and, yes, younger-looking skin?
"Everything you eat becomes a part of not only your inner being, but the outer fabric of your body as well. The healthier the foods are that you consume, the better your skin will look," says Samantha Heller, MS, RD, a clinical nutritionist at NYU Medical Center in New York City.
So what are the foods for healthy skin?
Well my doctor says eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and drink lots of water. Ok, I got the water part, but which fruits--there are so many fruits; so are vegetables, so many to choose from. Plus there are other foods we should be eating to have a balanced diet.
However, there are specific foods that are better in targeting what we are aiming for... a beautiful healthy complexion.
Here are foods for beautiful healthy skin...
#1 - Eat Fruits High in Antioxidants
Berries such as blueberries, strawberries and blackberries are very high in antioxidants.
According to Dr. Oz and other nutrition experts, acai berries have twice the amount of antioxidant of blueberries. So check out this wonderful berry as well.
The antioxidants and other good chemicals in these fruits will help protect your skin against the damaging effect of the sun which can cause premature aging and worst, skin cancer. In this respect, these fruits are not only delicious and very nutritious, but they may very well help keep your skin younger looking longer.
A reminder: Always wear sunscreen to protect your skin, even on cloudy days.
#2 - Eat Vegetables that are high in antioxidants
Broccoli - Broccoli is tops in the nutrition world for its proven cancer-fighting abilities. As with kale, eat them with a little fat to better absorb the carotenoids and vitamin A.
Kale - Kale is the number one vegetable for fighting cell-damaging free radicals. Eat kale with a little fat to better absorb the carotenoids and vitamin A.
Alfalfa sprouts - Also known as beansprouts have outstanding nutritional value. They are rich in protein as well as vitamin A, the vitamin B complex, vitamin C and vitamin E, as well as various minerals and enzymes. They are very good to protect against cancer, fatigue and the immune system.
Spinach - Spinach is one of the lowest calorie foods of all. Researchers have found that it may be critical in lowering blood pressure.
Brussels sprouts - Brussels sprouts are full of nutrients and contain significant amounts of vitamin C. In fact, gram for gram, Brussels sprouts contain nearly fifty percent more vitamin C than an orange. Just four to six Brussels sprouts contain the adult daily requirement for vitamin C.
Beets - Beets are high in folic acid (great for pregnant women), potassium, calcium and antioxidants (betacyanin, which is what gives beets their rich red color.).
Eggplant - Eggplants are rich sources of dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals and contain very less calories. This makes it an ideal component of the low fat diets and the diets of those working on weight loss. Other essential minerals contained in eggplant include potassium, manganese, magnesium, copper and an important sources of phytonutrients, which is obtained from their deep purple color.
Also high in antioxidants are red bell peppers, onions and corn.
#3 - Eat Salmon
Salmon is a prime source for Omega 3 fatty acids, which reduce skin inflammation, preventing redness, wrinkles, and loss of firmness. It is also high in antioxidants and vitamins B and D.
#4 - Eat Oysters
The best source of zinc, period. Zinc helps build collagen, which supports the structure of skin and speeds up renewal and repair.
#5 - Eat Low-Fat Dairy Products
Milk is not only for kids! And men do eat yogurt.
Low-fat dairy products are a great source of vitamin A, which is very good for healthy beautiful skin. So drink plenty of skim milk.. you cannot stand skim milk, go for 1% or 2%.
Low-fat yogurt is one snack that is very nutritious. It's high in vitamin A and contains good bacteria that helps keep digestion normal. And this will be reflected in healthy-looking skin.
Remember, constipation makes people cranky. Being regular makes people happy... and studies show that happy people live longer than unhappy people. So eat your yogurt.
#6 - Drink Green Tea
Green tea is the granddaddy of all teas. This beverage deserves a category all its own in any article about foods for healthy skin. The skin-health properties in this beneficial drink just can't be beat. It has anti-inflammatory properties, and it's protective to the cell membrane. It may even help prevent or reduce the risk of skin cancer. A study published recently in the Archives of Dermatology shows that whether taken orally or applied to the skin, green tea can reduce the risk of damage from ultraviolet light and, thus reduce the risk of skin cancer. And the polyphenols in green tea have anti-inflammatory properties that may also be beneficial to skin health overall.
#7 - Eat Dark Chocolate
Dark Chocolate is full of antioxidants and nutrients, cocoa (choose chocolate with at least 60 percent cocoa) increases blood flow to the skin, which in turn boosts hydration, smoothness, and protection against sun exposure.
I, for one, like this idea, a lot.
#8 - Drink Plenty of Water
Last but not least, drink lots of water. You can drink as much water as you can... zero calorie and it will keep your body hydrated. How much water do we need? Well, the exact amount varies but, it is recommended to drink about eight glasses daily. In addition to keeping cells in our body hydrated, water helps cells move nutrients in and toxins out, which experts say automatically leaves skin looking better. So forget diet colas, water is all you need to keep your body hydrated and your skin looking healthy and beautiful.
So there you go. Eat these super foods for beautiful softer skin - glowing, vibrant, younger-looking skin.... and for a healthier and, yes, younger-looking you.

I am always on the look out for something to give me flawless skin but truth be told I do find when my eating habits go off the rail my skin shows it right away! Does not matter what magic elixer I am massaging into it. I find this to be especially true for water and tea. I tend to overdo the diet coke and I can tell by my skin, When I stick to the water and tea I really do glow--no BS there. I am going to have to give salmon another try--it is on every list of what TO DO!
Beautifully laid out hub with great information. I like that you had great pictures of all the good food we should eat.
I use "ponds cold cream" each night to take off all my makeup. I found a helpful Utube video and it really does work! It keeps my skin from being dry too.
