I joined Hubpages to see if I could earn money writing online. I'm happy to report that I can. Considering that I had been blogging for three years before joining Hubpages and earned nothing, earning a few dollars from my writings here on Hubpages, is truly exciting to me.

By Hubpages' standards, I am by no means a success story. Nor am I an excellent hubber for that matter. Just check out my hubber score. When most hubbers, who have been here for as long as I have, are enjoying a hubber score in mid 90's to 100, my hubber score has remained in the 80's. And to add insult to injury, there are hubbers who have been here just a few weeks (a few weeks!) and already been blessed with a perfect "100" hubber score. Excuse me, but that's quite disconcerting.

That said, and although I had lost the burning passion that I had during my first six months here on Hubpages, my earnings on Hubpages have continued to grow.

Here's My Story

When I joined Hubpages on November 10, 2010, there was no Hubpages Ad Program at the time. The only sources of income were Google Adsense, Amazon and eBay. I had Adsense and Amazon accounts, but no eBay.

First Month Earnings

On my first month, I had taken the "30 hubs in 30 days" challenge, and successfully finished it. But even with 30 hubs, I earned zero on my first month.

Second Month Earnings

On my second month, with approximately 40 hubs, I was so thrilled to have earned $3.99 on Adsense. And listen to this... I had also earned my very first Amazon referral fee, a whopping 40 cents. For me, that was phenomenal!

Continued Growth in Earnings

When Hubpages introduced the Hubpages Ad Program, not everyone was happy. There were a lot of discontent and negativity in the forums. A good number of hubbers were saying that the Hubpages Ad Program was killing their Adsense earnings. There was an option, of course, of turning off the HPAds program. I never did. My Adsense earnings continued to grow and combined with the new HPAds program, my earnings here on Hubpages were higher than ever. I shared my experience in my hub "Is Hubpages Ad Program killing Adsense Earnings?"

Changes in Hubpages Ad Layout

There were changes in Hubpages Ad layout that affected Google Adsense earnings. The one that concerned me and other hubbers the most, was the latest Hubpages Ad layout change implemented five months ago. Check out this forum thread "New Ad Layout Launching today" and read the concerns brought up by the Hubpages community, including myself.

The following images show the changes in the Hubpages Ad layout.

The change in Hubpages Ad layout in March 2011, brought in a slight decrease in my overall earnings for March, but bounced back stronger in April 2011. However, the new layout with higher CPM boosted my HPAds earnings, and my combined Adsense and HPAds earnings in October 2011, had almost doubled. So, thank you Hubpages!

Monthly Earnings on Hubpages

So, to answer the question "How much do you earn from Hubpages every month?" - here are my monthly combined earnings from Google Adsense, Hubpages Ad Program, and Amazon, from November 10, 2010 to March 31, 2012:

Please note:

  • May I repeat that the above monthly earnings from Hubpages, are the combined earnings from Adsense, Hubpages Ad Program, and Amazon, for November 2010 up to March 31, 2012.
  • The big jump in earnings in November and December 2011, was mainly due to holiday season referral fees from Amazon.
  • Most of my 100+ hubs were written during my first six months. I had only written 8 hubs, including this hub, from June 2011 to March 31, 2012.

Although there are many writers here on Hubpages who are earning so much more than I do, I am proud of my earning an extra $300+ a month from my writings here on Hubpages.

Not bad for a writer whose hubber score is 86, eh? I say, not bad... not bad at all.
